So, you've decided you want to take a step forward into your relationship. Yet you don't know where to start or how to start. No worries, isn't that the reason why you stumbled on this page?
You may be wondering whether to do it on your own or hire an agency. It is really up to you. If you have the money and you think you are too busy to do the papers or plainly just worried that you're gonna missed out on important details, sure. The important thing here is that you don't stress yourself. (Whispering: Because there are other things that will stress you more. wink!) But, if you've decided you wanna file it on your own, then maybe this article can help a bit. In our case, because he was busy with work, and I was just home taking care of our son, I decided I'll prepare our documents. I just gave him instructions on what documents to provide and where to sign. It was actually easy and cheaper (or should I say, FREE?) It may not be necessary, but it is ideal to prepare a cover letter when filing a visa, and here is ours - just edited some info:

We filed February of 2016, back then, the filing fee was $340. As of 2017, the current filing fee is $535. Please check with USCIS website(I129-F) for updated forms like G-1145, I-129F, G-325A, fees and instructions and where to file. Most documents are easy to comply, yet in some cases, there are additional papers needed. For example,
If you previously worked abroad for more than 6months, you would need a police clearance from that country.
If you have terminated marriage/s, you need to provide annulment papers.
If you are a widow, include your late husband's death certificate.
If you have kid/s from previous partner, you will need to file K-2 visa.
If you met online, a copy of IMBRA from the site you've used is required. (There could be more that I am not aware of.)
If you and your US citizen fiancé have a baby prior to K-1 application, you must report your baby's birth by applying for CRBA.
PROOFS. I often read in social media questions like what kind of evidences can they attach. What if they chat everyday, do they need to print out screenshots of their conversation from the very first "Hello's"? In my case, I didn't. Let's say, you talked everyday for 2years, oh boy, that's gonna be a ton of paper to print, you won't want that. What I did was, I printed 4-5 screenshots each year, choosing only conversations containing sweetness and future plans, so as, video chat screenshots (if you have some.) With regards to photos together, hotel receipts and ticket itineraries, I sorted them by year instead of by item. That made our proofs in chronological order.
LESS is MORE. It could be LESS number of proofs, but MORE focused on the important details. But again, this was me. If you think you needed to provide more evidence, it is up to you. Just choose the one that shows your bonafide relationship.
Don't stress out on the visa process, there are many groups and forums that can help you. You just got to search and read threads about visa applications and other visa experience articles. WE ARE HERE TO HELP. Good luck on your new journey. ^^
